KNW Central Heating Services
KNW established their Gas Central Heating division in response to demand from our existing Insulation customers who were looking for an Installer they knew and they could trust.
Our core Gas Services include:
- Installation and repair of gas central heating systems.
- Upgrade and power flush of central heating systems.
- Landlords Gas Safety checks.
- Service and repair of all domestic gas appliances.
All of KNW’s Installers are fully qualified Corgi registered engineers and all work is compliant with building regulations.
When gas is used correctly and with respect it is a safe and economical fuel. However - as with any area of expertise - people working with gas need to have the appropriate training and experience. CORGI Registered Installers have to undergo at least the minimum requirement of training before they are accepted on to the CORGI register. Most have significantly more training. The training and assessments that registered gas installers have are not only about the technical know-how of specific appliances but also about safety. All assessments have to be renewed every five years in order to keep installers up to date with ever-changing standards and regulations and to keep their knowledge fresh.
In order to protect the general public, CORGI Registered Installers are:
- Given an identification card which should be shown upon request
- Required to obtain competency certificates in areas of gas work they carry out
- Required to update their proof of competence regularly
Subject to regular work inspections carried out by CORGI Inspectors
It is not only illegal for people to work with gas unless they are CORGI Registered, it is also highly dangerous. Statistics demonstrate that a significant proportion of gas work carried out by people who are not registered with CORGI is incorrect and therefore potentially unsafe.
If you need gas installation or maintenance work, make sure that you employ a CORGI Registered Installer with the appropriate training and credentials. CORGI Registered Installers will make sure that your appliances meet all gas safety and building regulations and that you have the necessary documentation you may need to sell your house in the future.
If you are unsure whether your installer has the appropriate registration to handle your work, ask to see their ID card and check the details on the reverse.
Gas Servicing
Having your gas appliances such as your Boiler or Gas Fire serviced on an annual basis will enable to check that they are operating safely and efficiently, this will save you money in the operating costs of the appliance.
- Ensure appliances are checked for safety annually by a CORGI Registered Installer
- Be cautious when buying second hand appliances. Do not save on safety.
- Never be tempted to DIY with gas.
If you live in rented accommodation, insist on seeing your landlord's gas safety certificate, which shows that the appliances he owns have been checked for safety by a CORGI Registered Installer. Your landlord is legally obliged to provide you with written proof of these checks.
Electrical Services
KNW employs highly skilled and qualified Electrical Engineers for the installation and repair of electrical appliances. Electrical work is fully compliant with current building regulations and includes:
- Installation and repair of electrical heating systems.
- Electrical safety checks and servicing.
- Re-wiring and general home maintenance.
- Additional sockets and relocation of existing sockets, switches and appliances.
From 1st January 2005 people carrying out electrical work in homes must follow the new safety rules in the Building Regulations – Approved Document P.
If you are carrying out new electrical work it is necessary to employ an electrician who is registered under a Competent Persons scheme. KNW is registered with the Corgi competent person scheme , an on completion of all relevant work a Certificate is provided to the householder detailing the work completed and that it is compliant with the competent person scheme regulations.
